Write Your Way Around the World!

Hi. I’m Dave Fox, author of the bestselling book, Globejotting: How to Write Extraordinary Travel Journals (and still have time to enjoy your trip!) For more than a decade, I’ve been teaching travelers how to write about their experiences in ways that capture the excitement of their journeys without gobbling up precious vacation time. Now, with the launch of my new company, Globejotter Tours, I’m taking my classes on the road.

Globejotter Tours are travel adventures and creative writing lessons rolled into one. They’re not stodgy writing workshops that keep you cooped up inside. Our number one focus is on creating memorable travel experiences for small, down-to-earth groups. We dive deep into local cultures in ways large tour companies can’t. We travel with carefully selected local guides, mixing sightseeing highlights and off-the-beaten-path encounters. And we give our groups plenty of free time to get out and discover their own stories. Along the way, every couple of days, we offer classes to help you write personal travel memoirs and stories you can keep for yourself, share with friends and family, post on a blog, or publish professionally.

Our trips are open to writers of all skill levels. And…all of our writing classes are optional. If you want to write but your travel partner doesn’t, or if you’re not much of a writer yourself but you just think we have a nifty travel philosophy and fun itineraries, we’re cool with that! You’re always free to play hookie and go wander. How much you write is up to you. Our number one goal is that each person has the best trip they possibly can, in whatever way makes them happy. (Well…unless poking your tour guide in the eye makes you happy. That is not allowed.)

If you do want to plunge into the exciting world of travel writing, our classes will help you write not only about the trip you’re on, but past and future journeys as well. The techniques we teach won’t just help you write better; they’ll help you travel better too — with richer awareness and deeper insights into the places you visit. To maintain high quality writing classes, and to offer cultural encounters that bigger companies can’t, we limit each group to 12 participants, and we allow time to address each trip member’s personal writing goals.

Our first Globejotter Tour was a writing safari in Botswana last January. In partnership with The Wild Source, we explored the Okavango Delta and Kalahari Desert. We saw a vast array of wildlife, had impromptu chats in untouristed villages with local craftsmen and tribal chiefs, and even taught Kalahari Bushmen how to play Frisbee! Now, for our next adventure, we’re off to Vietnam.

I've traveled in roughly 45 countries on five continents. No place has captured my heart like Vietnam has. It’s a land I love deeply, in spite of my own country's painfully connected history, a place where I’ve found close friends, tantalizing cuisine, diverse ways of life, and stunning scenery. What I love most about Vietnam is the people — friendly, industrious, gentle, and curious.

For two weeks next October, I'll lead a group through my new favorite country. We'll visit bustling Ho Chi Minh City, the lush jungles of the Mekong Delta, and sandy beaches and cozy fishing villages along the South China Sea. You'll have lots of opportunities to interact with local Vietnamese people (including some of my close personal friends), explore colorful temples and solemn historical sites, visit local markets, and even enjoy a Vietnamese cooking class.

If you’re interested in joining us, you’ll find all the details in this website. If you have questions or you’re ready to sign up, e-mail us at info@GlobejotterTours.com or give us a call at 1-206-922-2292.

And hey, if these dates don't work for you, if you'd like a different tour with a different budget or focus, or if there are other parts of the world you’d like to explore, let us know! If there's enough demand, we can sometimes organize other itineraries — and if you can wrangle together a group of at least 10 people, your tour is free! Give us a call for details. We're planning another Botswana writing safari for March, 2011. Details are coming soon. We also offer tours for private groups, and hope to add some weekend writing getaways in North America soon as well.

So check out our website, call your favorite travel partners, and get ready for a creative writing travel adventure!

Happy Travels and Happy Writing!
